The Scottish Children’s Reporter Administration (SCRA) has published its Annual Report for 2016/17.

The Annual Report provides statistical information about the numbers of children and young people referred to the Reporter in 2016/17.

The statistics show that in 2016/17, 15,118 children and young people in Scotland were referred to the Reporter:

  • 13,254 on non-offence (care and protection) grounds
  • 2,995 on offence grounds

The figure 15,118 represents 1.7% of all children and young people in Scotland.

  • 1.4% of all children and young people were referred on care and protection grounds
  • 0.7% of all children and young people aged between eight and 16 years were referred on offence grounds.

The Annual Report also provides information about what SCRA has been doing to improve things for children and young people in the past year, including new films, improved information materials and revamps of Hearing rooms.
